Blessed with a high, clear tenor voice that recalls Gram Parsons or a "Harvest" era Neil Young and an elegant six-string style, native North Carolinian Johnny Irion's country rock sound on "Unity Lodge" is a welcomed addition to the American Roots Music genre. Complete with potent melodies and plenty of soul, Irion steps out in a big way on his solo debut. Irion's musical roots include beinga founding member of Queen Sarah Saturday (Thirsty Ear/Sony) and a member of Dillion Fence when they toured Europe opening for the Black Crowes. The Carbines' Zeke Hutchins (on drums) and multi-insttrumentalist Greg Reading lend their talents, as does bassist Drew Lile and Irion's former Queen Sarah Saturday bandmate Ryan Pickett. Irion's wife, Sarah Lee Guthrie (Arlo's daughter) also appears, contributing back-up vocals. Either solo or with wife Sarah as a duo, Irion is on the road most of the year.
