Nick Lowe strikes again with a brand new EP, Lay It On Me, where he is once again joined by his gang of masked musicians, Los Straitjackets. The limited edition EP features two new originals from Nick, "Lay It On Me Baby" and "Don't Be Nice to Me," plus a cover of Dorsey Burnette's "Here Comes That Feeling" (made famous by Brenda Lee). Nick's wordplay and razor-sharp lyrics shine bright with the twang-friendly tones of Los Straitjackets behind him. On Side B of the EP is the first track that Nick has produced in over two decades that wasn't one of his own performances: Los Straitjackets turning Shocking Blue/Bananarama's "Venus" into a surf rock staple.
** Walkabout: Nick Lowe & Los Straitjackets recently completed their first ever joint-tour of Australia & New Zealand! To commemorate this special event, Yep Roc released Walkabout, a limited edition compilation of Nick and the Straitjackets’ recent works plus some previously unreleased material, previously available to Australia, New Zealand and Japan only. Walkabout features three songs from each of Nick’s recent EPs: Tokyo Bay/Crying Inside (which includes a cover of “Heartbreaker” penned by the Australia’s own Bee Gees) and Love Starvation/Trombone. Also included are four Los Straitjackets’ surf rock covers of Nick’s greatest hits, found on their 2017 Nick Lowe-tribute album What’s So Funny About Peace, Love and Los Straitjackets.
Also featured on Walkabout is the first ever physical release of Los Straitjackets’ cover of the Easybeats’ Aussie anthem “Friday on My Mind” and a totally unreleased live recording of Nick and Los Straitjackets performing Nick’s “Heart of the City” in 2018. And to top it off, a Nick Lowe and Los Straitjackets sticker sheet is included with the packaging of the CD + LP! The LP also arrives on Australian Flag color vinyl!
