The Go-Betweens are the quintessential cult band. Sired by the new wave explosion of the late '70s, The Go-Betweens have spent the last 25 years crafting the sort of lovely, eloquent music "Lou Reed could have written if he had fallen for Brian Wilson, not David Bowie" (The Guardian). Guitar popsters like Travis, Luna and Belle & Sebastian (who expressed their love for the band in their song "Shoot the Sexual Athelete") can all thank the lush, uplifting excitement The Go-Betweens' masterminds Grant McLennan and Robert Forster have consistently crafted starting with 1982's Send Me a Lullaby. Their excellent 2000 release The Friends of Rachel Worth found Forster and McLennan backed by the three members of Sleater Kinney and Sam Coombes of Quasi. Says Rolling Stone, "Quite frankly, there is no group of this generation writing and recording music of this class and quality." The May 2005 issue of Mojo featured a 5-Star review of "Oceans Apart".
